The Service of Process Agent accepts service of process of legal documents (summons
and complaints; notices and demands; etc.) on behalf of corporations, limited liability
companies, and other entities registered in the corporate records of the NC Department
of the Secretary of State.
Every entity registered with the Secretary of State requires a registered agent
to accept service of process on its behalf. It is the registered agent’s sole responsibility
to forward the paperwork to the entity’s last known address. The name and address
of the registered agent is maintained within the records of the Corporations Division
at the Secretary of State’s Office.
In specific circumstances, the Secretary of State is appointed as agent for service
of process. A listing of the service of process statutes which pertain to this office
is located under the Statutes and Regulations link to the left.
The Service of Process agent also accepts real property bonds required to be filed
with the Department.
