EXPERIENCE : STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA, DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE: Director of International Trade, June 2000 to present.
Direct a staff of over 16 trade consultants, foreign trade contractors in Korea, Japan, China, Germany, Canada, Mexico & administrative assistants in Raleigh and High Point with a budget of over $2.6 Million per annum. Led the strategic planning effort for the operations with several virtual work teams. Launched new project to bring foreign trade directors back to North Carolina twice a year to introduce them to high potential exporters statewide.

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL : Executive Director, September 1999 – April 2000
Assigned to the Office of Governor Tom Ridge to establish a Center with the primary objective being to increase cooperation and coordination among the various State agencies, educational institutions, industry associations and other groups involved in international trade. The Center is unique in its vision nationwide to foster such a comprehensive model.
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT : Executive Director, Worldwide Operations- February 1998-August 1999
Directed a staff of over 20 trade representatives, directors, & administrative assistants in Harrisburg with a budget of over $7 Million per annum. Administered the ten Team PA Export Network members throughout PA charged with the implementation of Export 2000, a nationally recognized model for export development. Managed a global network of over 15 overseas representatives on every major continent. Team Leader for the Cabinet Secretary’s trade mission to South Africa. Developed guidelines for the creation of global business plans for the overseas offices via an Internet bulletin board which allowed the network to share and develop best practices globally.
NEVADA COMMISSION ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ; Director of International Trade - February 1993-February 1998
Responsible for the expansion of exports and foreign investment attraction for the State of Nevada. Develop and implement the State's international marketing plan. Organized trade & investment missions to Mexico, Canada, & the UK. Nine trade missions to Mexico, the U.K. & Chile from 1993-1995 generated over $50 million in projected 12 month sales for the 55 corporate participants. Established matchmaker meetings between Nevada suppliers in the computer industry and the Saudi, Australian, and Brazilian foreign buyers delegations during the 1993 & 1994 COMDEX trade show. Promotion generated over $6 million in 12 month sales projections for 5 NV suppliers. Projected job creation from trade promotion program is over 1058 new jobs. Organized State investment mission in cooperation with the Council of US States in Canada. Generated twenty-five qualified investment prospects or multipliers. Managed the production of the Nevada International Trade Resources Directory and the Nevada Export Directory. Oversaw the development of the first Nevada Exporters database. Provide export counseling for Nevada firms seeking to enter the international marketplace and secure EXIM bank financing. Organized over 5 international trade seminars on doing business in Germany and Mexico. Hosted potential foreign investor from UK during two site visits. Prepared economic development information for Mercedes sports utility vehicle site selection committee. Supervised staff of 2 independent contractors, 1 secretary, & 6 interns.
ALLSTATE TOURS, INC.; Sales Manager - June 1992 - February 1993
Was responsible for managing a sales force of twenty-seven. Company was in the business of marketing tours to the Grand Canyon, Lake Mead, and Hoover Dam. The firm also sells tickets to the majority of the shows in Las Vegas. Was assigned some of the most demanding sales locations during the first month as a sales representative. Was promoted to sales manager after three months.
CUNNINGHAM & ASSOCIATES ; President - June 1991- June 1992
Formed export management firm to promote the sale of pollution control technology and services in Mexico. Successfully matched client in the hydrogeological instrumentation product line with a distributor in Mexico in the first 6 months of starting the company. Did international business consulting for AZ Public Service Company.

Trade - Jan.1989 - June 1991
Principal area of responsibility was for managing the international division of the Department. Actively developed legislative strategy with senior management. Testified before Arizona Legislature on economic development issues. Represented Director at Cabinet meetings. Worked weekly with managers of CDBG, Community Development, Finance, Business Retention & Expansion, Energy, Motion Pictures, Research, Housing, and Baseball programs. Directly supervised a staff of three international trade specialists, one administrative assistant and an overseas office in Taipei, Taiwan. Oversaw budget allocations exceeding $400K per annum. Responsibilities included developing and managing specific programs for the promotion of Arizona exports and the attraction of foreign direct investment to the State. Established international trade policy for the State of Arizona. Organized Governor Mofford's Trade Mission to Japan and Taiwan which generated over $5 million in sales for the three high tech firms that participated. Led the first Western Governor's Association (WGA) regional trade mission to Chile & Mexico in May of 1990.
The promotion generated over $2 million in immediate sales and $16.2 million in projected sales. Led the first WGA regional investment mission to Hannover, Federal Republic of Germany in May of 1990. The project generated over sixty investment leads. Co-chaired the Japan Week Business conference in May of 1991 which was the largest international business conference ever organized in the State.
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, INTERNATIONAL TRADE OFFICE, STATE OF WYOMING - Director, International Trade - July 1987 - December 1988.
Responsibilities included directing the State's trade development and investment attraction programs. Also coordinated with the Wyoming Travel Commission to support the State's international tourism activities. Total annual operating budget was over $250 K which included management of office in Sydney, Australia Supervised a staff of three in Cheyenne. Results of ITO program included a joint venture announcement between the largest Australian corporation and a Wyoming technology firm for over $250K initially. Generated a survey to all WY firms to ascertain level of export experience and constructed a database with the results. Developed three innovative programs: -Export Incentive Program - provides direct grants for WY exporters to participate in trade shows or missions abroad; Group Marketing Program - brings together firms which produce complimentary product lines in the same industry and assists them to target key markets abroad; Governor's Quality Award -recognizes WY firms that have made a commitment to producing high quality products or services.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, ITA, U.S. & FOREIGN COMMERCIAL SERVICE: DENVER DISTRICT OFFICE. - International Trade Specialist, 1985 - 1987.
Was responsible for over two hundred accounts in Colorado and Wyoming. Counseled firms on U.S. Government export promotion programs. Provided accounts with sources of international market research information both public and private. Assisted firms with developing and implementing an international marketing strategy. Organized conferences on various international business topics. Initiated International Trade Club of Northern Colorado and Wyoming to bring exporters together for discussions on relevant international business topics. Led the Rocky Mountain High Tech Trade Mission to Italy, Sweden, and The Netherlands. As Mission Director, was responsible for organizing, recruiting, and developing project. Six firms participated and sales in the first year were six million dollars as a result of the mission.
